Professional Development Week 2018 - Alumni Events

Mix, mingle and network with fellow pharmacy alumni and students at Professional Development Week. Hosted by the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, for the first time ever this annual student conference opens its doors to pharmacy alumni to take in a key social event, pharmacy-related competition and a closing presentation by TSN sportscaster and mental health advocate Michael Landsberg.

*The following events are open to all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and their guests.

Friday, Jan. 12, 2018

Carnival and Alumni Mixer

When: 7:00 p.m.
Where: Hall C Foyer, Shaw Conference Centre
Cost: Free
This Western-themed summer fair carnival features snacks, games and live entertainment.

Canada’s Next Top Pharmacist
When: Doors open at 8:00 p.m.
Where: Hall C, Shaw Conference Centre
Cost: $30/person
Ten contestants show off their pharmaceutical knowledge and strut the white coat “catwalk” as they vie for the title of Canada’s Next Top Pharmacist.

TSN sportscaster Michael Landsberg shares his personal struggles with depression and anxiety, and touches on the role of pharmacists in providing mental health care.

About the Speaker

Michael Landsberg has been a prominent face and voice on the Canadian sports scene since 1984, most notably as producer and host of TSN’s Off the Record and host of TSN 1050 radio’s Landsberg in the Morning. Landsberg publicly shared his personal struggles with severe depression and anxiety in 2009 and has since become a vocal advocate for mental health. He is an official spokesperson for Bell Let’s Talk Day, and, in 2015, Landsberg launched his own not-for-profit initiative called SickNotWeak.
